MILL CITY, Ore. — The body of missing 18-year-old Karandeep Singh was recovered from the North Santiam River near Mill City on Oct. 24, the Linn County Sheriff's Office reported Friday.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office said the cause of death was accidental drowning. Singh had been missing since Oct. 7.

A fisherman called the sheriff's office on the afternoon of Oct. 24 and said he believed he'd hooked a body while fishing on the North Santiam River near Mill City. The county's dive team and search-and-rescue units responded and recovered the body from the river. The body was later identified by the medical examiner as Singh.

Deputies have been in contact with the Consulate General of India to coordinate communication with Singh's family living abroad.
