PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Peoria Police are looking for the suspect of a vehicle theft, who they said crashed the car and fled the scene after evading police.

According to police, at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the 2600 block of North Prospect Road for a reported stolen vehicle.

About 30 minutes after the initial report, police said they spotted the stolen vehicle near West Latrobe Street and South Folkers Avenue. After officers tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver floored it. Officers did not follow the suspect due to department policy.

Not long after, deputies with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office found the car abandoned in the 2300 block of South Oregon Street after it had crashed into a power pole.
