TOLEDO, Ohio — A Garfield Elementary School paraprofessional has been suspended without pay and now faces criminal charges after an alleged assault on a student was caught on school surveillance footage.

Court documents identify the employee as Carrissa Craig, who is charged with misdemeanor assault. The video, provided to WTOL 11 by the boy’s mother earlier this month, reportedly shows Craig grabbing the back of the student’s neck and pressing him against a wall.

Case Timeline

Sept. 30: Toledo Public Schools confirmed Craig was suspended without pay following what they called “deeply concerning” actions toward a student. The district said Lucas County Children Services was notified and an internal investigation began.
