MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An arrest has been made in a shooting in a South Memphis neighborhood last month that sent a 91-year-old retired MPD officer to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Tavares Sheeks, 27, is accused of opening fire on a house full of people in the 2000 block of Cloverdale Drive during a dispute over a car repair.

Sheeks was charged with criminal attempted second-degree murder, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, and employment of a firearm to commit a dangerous felony.

John Allen, who retired from the police force 16 years ago, said Sheeks showed up at his home after his girlfriend demanded Sheeks refund the money she paid him months ago to fix her Dodge Challenger.

The girlfriend told investigators she paid Sheeks $1,200, but he never started the job.
