BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — November 2nd marks 136 years since North Dakota was admitted as a state. North Dakota was the 39th State admitted into the union.

President Benjamin Harrison signed the statehood proclamations of North Dakota and South Dakota back to back. It is the only time two states have joined the union on the same day.

To celebrate, Boulder Avenue and State Street have been lined with American flags. A free public event will be hosted at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum starting at 1 p.m. The event serves as the kickoff to ND250, a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence happening next year.
