NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A 17-year-old said he accidentally shot his 15-year-old pregnant girlfriend during a struggle over his gun, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

MNPD said the 15-year-old girl was brought to Skyline Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the chest by her sister and cousin at 11:45 a.m. Sunday before she was transferred to Vanderbilt.

The 15-year-old was around 30 weeks pregnant at the time of the shooting. The baby was successfully delivered at Vanderbilt.

Police said the 15-year-old is in critical but stable condition at this time.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the victim had been in her North Dupont Avenue apartment bedroom with her 17-year-old boyfriend when the shooting happened.
