SHREVEPORT, La. – A sentiment city officials agree on – a violent fight this weekend in downtown Shreveport was “absolutely unacceptable” and endangered residents and visitors.

And it also renewed a call from one state lawmaker to call in outside assistance to help quell the situations that have been happening with more frequency.

A special meeting of the Shreveport City Council is set for Tuesday morning to discuss how to address the growing concerns related to loitering, fighting and other violent activity in the area – and surrounding neighborhoods.

The fight at the corner of Spring and Texas streets left at least one man unconscious. Those participating in the melee spilled into the streets, interrupting traffic at the busy downtown intersection.
