QUITMAN, Texas — An East Texas man was sentenced to 25 years Friday in prison after pleading guilty to severely beating a woman last year.
James Curtis Sims, Jr., 64, of Sulphur Springs, pleaded guilty to assault causes bodily injury family violence with a previous conviction. Through the plea, he was sentenced to 25 years, the Wood County District Attorney's Office said.
He admitted to being convicted of two previous felonies - delivering cocaine in 1992 and robbery in 2003 - and that enhanced the punishment. He had been convicted four times of misdemeanor assault on women in Hopkins County, the DA's office said.
