LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The main library in downtown Louisville will be closed for up to 12 months, the mayor announced on Monday.
Mayor Craig Greenberg said the closure will start on Dec. 1 during his weekly news conference. He said it was the last thing he wanted to do, but did so at the advice of the contractors.
“As soon as it became clear that keeping our doors open to the public during an active construction project of this magnitude was not going to be safe, the decision was made to temporarily close the building to the public,” Greenberg said. “We understand this will have an impact on people that use the Main Library, which is why my team and I immediately began discussions with Library staff and our community partners to find the best ways to serve those needs while we are closed to
