LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -November has arrived and it won’t be long before mid-Michigan roads are coated in snow. Before it starts falling, Michigan State Police want drivers to thaw out their winter driving skills.
It only takes one slippery patch of ice to lose control out on the road. When drivers don’t act fast, they risk spinning out or ending up in a ditch.
Michigan State Police Lieutenant Rene Gonzalez says this is a common source of accidents during the winter season.
“Once we see that first snow coming down, we know that call level is going to pop up for crashes,” Gonzalez said.
Sergeant John Looney says drivers can help avoid disaster by slowing down on snowy roads.
“I would say the majority of them are due to speed. Speed and distance,” Looney said.
