LANSING, Iowa (WXOW) – The free Cassville Car Ferry began operations Monday morning, providing a crucial route across the Mississippi River between Crawford County, Wisconsin, and Lansing, Iowa.
The ferry service is in operation while the Black Hawk Bridge remains closed for demolition preparations.
The ferry runs daily from 5:45 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. and is expected to accommodate roughly 700 vehicles each day. About 100 people used the ferry during its first three hours of service today.
Iowa DOT officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead as the ferry crew continues fine-tuning operations.
