Dozens of families say they are grateful they will not go to bed hungry after picking up a warm, home-cooked meal right here in Treme.

"I am diabetic, I am down to one frozen container of soup,” said Phoenix Titus.

Titus said, right now, her fridge is empty.

"I’m really grateful, super grateful,” Titus said.

After not receiving any food stamps on Saturday, she's thankful for a free meal from iconic jazz musician Kermit Ruffins.

"I spent a week eating pasta, and I was just sick, because it’s all sugar. And community fridges have been just wiped out as fast as people are putting stuff in them,” Titus said.

The need is clear as families lined up outside the historic lounge in Treme for a warm plate with chicken, rice and vegetables.
