HILLSBORO, Ore. (KPTV) - A school counselor in Hillsboro is doing her part to help by collecting funds to provide food to families in need.
Brookwood Elementary School counselor Adrianne Smith started a fundraiser after learned about families losing their SNAP benefits during the government shutdown.
Smith says even before the shutdown, she noticed kids bringing smaller lunches and more students getting free lunch.
On Monday, Smith made a trip to Costco for her first haul for the fundraiser, grabbing requested items such as diapers and soap as well as staples like eggs and milk.
“I just think it’s important for people to know your neighbor is food insecure,” said Smith. “And you just don’t have any idea they’re going through that and no child should go to bed hungry and we as a communi
