The six Rowan schools and A.L. Brown will be in the football state playoffs.
Yes, Salisbury (2-8) and South Rowan (3-7, with a seven-game losing streak) will be part of the fun along with the Wonders (7-3), West Rowan (6-4), North Rowan (6-4), Carson (5-5) and East Rowan (4-6).
The South Piedmont Conference has eight teams. All eight are in either the 4A or the 5A playoffs.
The NCHSAA field for the playoffs has expanded considerably this year, due to eight classifications. That’s a lot of playoff teams. In 2A through 7A, with 48-team brackets (24 West and 24 East), about 85 percent of the teams are in the playoffs.
While making the playoffs is no longer a significant feat, it does provide an opportunity.
