An $800,000 renovation project to turn a space in Mount Holly's municipal complex into a museum is complete, and the Mount Holly Historical Society Museum is ready for visitors.

The project pitted members of the Mount Holly Historical Society against some city officials.

Mount Holly city leaders have wanted to move the museum from its old location at 131 South Main St. in downtown Mount Holly since 2022. An environmental assessment of the city-owned building found mold, asbestos and lead paint, and a complete renovation of the building would have cost the city more than $1 million.
