JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The head softball coach at Jefferson County High School was charged with driving under the influence Sunday, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
In addition to coaching, Matthew Carter is a physical education teacher at Mount Horeb Elementary School. He has been suspended from both roles pending investigation, Jefferson County Schools said.
On Sunday, JCSO deputies went to Mile Marker 419 on I-40 east after receiving a call about a truck. They stopped the vehicle on Roy Messer Highway near the county line for a light law violation, JCSO said.
A deputy spoke to Carter, who he said smelled of alcohol. According to JCSO, Carter failed a standardized field sobriety test and was arrested. According to the affidavit of complaint, he admitted to having had
