BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- An 8-year-old boy has died after being hit by a pickup driven by an alleged drunken driver, police said.
The driver, Andres Serna, 33, is being held on suspicion of murder and other crimes. He's due in court Wednesday.
Serna has twice before been charged with drunken driving in Kern County and his license is suspended, according to court records.
He was convicted of misdemeanor DUI in 2022 and has a pending DUI case stemming from charges filed in February.
Police say Serna lost control of a pickup at 12:09 p.m. Monday as he drove west on East California Avenue near Haley Street.
The truck crashed through a fence and into a parking lot, hitting the boy and his father near a food truck, according to police.
