A deputy with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is accused of misusing funds collected from fellow deputies for commemorative badges, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson Tuesday.
Desiree Kinorri Brown, 40, was booked into the Orleans Parish jail on Halloween on a count of felony theft between $5,000 and $25,000 and a count of malfeasance in office.
“These funds were intended to support a legitimate internal initiative, and the misuse of any portion of those proceeds represents a serious breach of public trust and professional ethics” Sheriff Susan Hutson said.
Hutson ordered an administrative investigation to determine the scope of any misconduct and account for any stolen funds. Brown was placed on administrative leave as the Sheriff’s Office investigates the alleged theft,
