A liquor store theft on Halloween night left the business’s elderly owner with broken bones and a brain bleed after she tried to stop the suspects, police said.
Three people walked into the store in the 5100 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard at about 6:30 p.m. and snatched merchandise off the shelves, Portland police spokesperson Mike Benner told The Oregonian/OregonLive.
The store’s owner — who family members identified as Anna Hyde, 73 — ran after the suspected thieves and confronted them in the parking lot, before reaching into their car as they tried to escape, Hyde’s daughter Jennifer Fuller said on social media.
The suspects slammed the car door on her hand and drove off, dragging her across the gravel parking lot until she was able to pry her hand loose, Fuller said.
