Ensuring voting runs smoothly is "almost like a calling" for Bill Roibal.

Tuesday's statewide local election marks his second election as the presiding judge at the Southside Branch Library in Santa Fe, or the polling site's primary supervisor. He said he follows in the footsteps of his father, a longtime defender of voting, and his son is now carrying on the tradition.

By midmorning Tuesday, the polling place was busy — busier than during early voting, Roibal said. Cars crowded the parking lot, and a steady stream of voters made their way toward voting booths.

Santa Feans headed to the polls to select a new mayor, two new city councilors and a school board member, and decide on a $150 million general obligation bond for Santa Fe Public Schools, among other issues.
