MORRISTOWN, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - The Red Covered Bridge on Cole Hill Road is exceptional nowadays, but when it was built in 1896 it was just one of thousands of its kind. In fact, it was one of the last of Vermont's covered wooden bridges to be built - as mentioned in its nomination as a National Historic Place.
On Tuesday, Morristown authorities said that they were looking for public assistance after an unknown vehicle hit the bridge the week before, damaging it.
The photo supplied by police, which readers can see above, shows damage caused to the north side of the Red Covered Bridge. According to authorities, the damage occurred on or around Monday, October 27, and happened during the daytime hours.
Anyone with possible information is asked to call Morristown police at (802) 888-4211.
