HARTFORD, Conn. —

It's Election Day! But if you're like many people during a so-called "off year," when there are no major national races driving people to the polls, you might not have realized.

On Tuesday morning, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas addressed lower voter turnout in smaller elections across Connecticut compared to midterms or presidential ones.

Cities that have mayoral elections are seeing larger turnouts, but polls like the ones in Hartford, who only have Board of Education elections, are seeing slower foot traffic.

Officials say 80% of voters in Connecticut turn out regularly for presidential elections. That number plummets however during “off- years."
