CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- The Salvation Army is gearing up to kick off an annual campaign later this week in Champaign.

The organization said with more people and families facing hard times this holiday season, The Salvation Army of Champaign County wants to step up to meet the rising demand for support. In an effort to make sure critical services remain available through the holidays and beyond, they are aiming to raise $200,000 during the "Give With Joy" Red Kettle Christmas campaign and are asking the local community for help.

This year's Christmas campaign will kick off with the ceremonial ringing of the first bell on Nov. 7 at noon at Prairie Gardens in Champaign. The program will also feature remarks by leaders of The Salvation Army of Champaign County and a performance by The Salv
