CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- One Central Illinois business is helping feed its neighbors.
The Literary in Champaign is fundraising and giving out free meals. The owner, Jenny Shima, said that she decided to act while concerns were growing over SNAP benefits. They created an "OH SNAP" menu, and people just have to show their SNAP card and can get a free meal. The Literary is funding this with a community gift card.
In just the past five days, they have raised close to $12,000.
Shima is overwhelmed with gratitude for how the community has come together.
"I think that when you are able to keep your money in your community, helping your neighbors, right here at home through a local business or a local food bank, it matters. It matters to our community. It matters to our donors, and it matters
