LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WEVV) — A UPS MD-11 plane has crashed near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, according to Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

Authorities are reporting injuries and have issued a shelter-in-place order for areas within 5 miles of the airport.

A massive plume of black smoke can be seen rising near the airport tarmac.

The airport serves as a global air hub for UPS, where over 12,000 employees process more than two million packages daily.

"Grade Lane will be closed indefinitely between Stooges and Crittenden," LMPD said in a social media post.

The MD-11F, a freight transport aircraft, is used by major cargo airlines including UPS.
