OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEVV) — Delays in monthly benefit payments have left many vulnerable seniors without essential assistance, causing an increased demand at local senior centers.
Carsten Tindle, the County Aging Coordinator at the Owensboro Senior Center, explained how the lack of SNAP benefits has impacted their operations.
"The only way it's affected us so far is we've seen a bigger influx of people coming in for lunches daily here and at our other locations," Tindle said.
Tindle shared that the surge in visitors began last week, even before the missed benefit payments.
"It started last week, we saw a huge increase last week. Yesterday was a little higher too. Today was a little lower but last week it was really high," said Tindle.
