(NEXSTAR) – Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport closed its airfield after a fiery plane crash involving a UPS aircraft Tuesday evening, officials confirmed.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m., shortly after UPS Flight 2976 took off from the Louisville, Kentucky airport, an FAA spokesperson told Nexstar. The aircraft was bound for Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

The Louisville Metro Police Dept. announced that a shelter-in-place had been issued for "all locations within 5 miles of the airport" after reports of a plane crash, adding that there were "injuries reported."

"This is an active scene with fire and debris," the department said on X. "Stay away."
