SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — Jury selection began on Monday in the retrial of three former Washington County deputies accused of tasing a man, Eurie Martin, to death back in 2017 while walking.
But after two days of jury selection, prosecutors handling the case are asking for the court to move the case out of Washington County.
Henry Lee Copeland, Michael Howell and Rhett Scott are facing murder charges in Martin's death more than eight years ago. The case returns to court after a 2021 trial ended in a mistrial when jurors could not reach a verdict.
But its been a long journey for members of the Martin family.
Leonard Jordan, president of the local NAACP chapter, said he made daily calls to the district attorney's office for years to ensure the case was prosecuted again.
