NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A Newport man accused of assaulting and critically injuring a 21-year-old woman last month has been charged with violating a no-contact order, 12 News has learned.
Preston Schuster, 21, was taken into custody on Oct. 28 by the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force.
Court records indicate Schuster was ordered held as a bail violator pending his next court date, which is scheduled for Nov. 18.
Schuster was arrested on Oct. 10 after the woman was found unresponsive and unconscious in his bed. The victim was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where she remains in critical condition.
Prosecutors claimed Schuster admitted to beating the woman in his car after the two had returned from a trip to Massachusetts.
