Erwin, Tenn. (WJHL) — Applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP, opened on November 3.
It's about a month later than in years past due to some changes made to the program, explains the Marketing Director for Upper East Tennessee Human Development Agency (UETHDA), Drew Deakins. Deakins said the program is moving towards an online platform that requires every applicant to have an email address, although paper applications are still available.
"One of the biggest things is the growing pains of this year is that it does require an email address to apply, and we do know that that can be a challenge, especially for our elderly customers.
