NORFOLK, Va. — A local pharmacy is helping make contraception more accessible for women across Hampton Roads.

Peoples Pharmacy on Church Street in Norfolk is now one of just 17 providers in Virginia offering free birth control for up to a year through the Contraceptive Access Initiative , a statewide program funded through the Virginia Department of Health.

Dr. Anna Peoples, who runs Peoples Pharmacy, said the process is simple and designed to remove barriers to care.

"The pharmacy actually is a one-stop shop," Dr. Peoples said. "So, folks can come here, get their assessments, get their prescriptions, and then get the prescriptions filled. And what we try to do, in most cases, is supply a year's worth of contraception."
