ALBANY, New York (WWNY) - Amid the government shutdown and SNAP concerns, the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets is reminding farmers that they are eligible to receive a tax credit for donating food to food banks, pantries and other emergency food providers.

It’s a refundable credit equal to 25% of the fair market value of qualified donations.

Farmers can donate items like fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and meat products.

The department is encouraging farmers to take advantage of the program to help keep food on the table for families in need.
