LINCOLN, Neb. —
Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney died at the age of 84 due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, according to a statement from his family.
Before his stint as a powerful and polarizing vice president, Cheney got his start in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended Calvert Elementary School.
"We always appreciated the fact that he was born and raised in Nebraska," Allen Beermann, the former Nebraska secretary of state, said.
