PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 12-year-old boy was injured by a stray bullet Tuesday night while inside a corner store with his mother in North Philadelphia.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. near 18th and Huntingdon streets. The boy, who was helping his mother behind the counter, was struck in the shoulder when a bullet pierced the store window.
He was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and is listed in stable condition.
According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, a 25-year-old woman told police she had been involved in an altercation with a male driver moments before the gunfire erupted.
Police say the man allegedly fired shots from a vehicle, and the woman returned fire from the sidewalk. At least nine shell casings were recovered at the scene.
