BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The vote to determine whether the city of Delano’s sales tax will be maintained or changed ended at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The city is now awaiting the final count.
If passed, Measure B would extend the existing 1% sales tax until ended by voters, rather than expiring March 31, 2028.
The current sales tax in Delano is 8.25%. If Measure B doesn’t pass, the tax would decrease to 7.25%.
The tax was set since voters in Delano passed Measure I in 2007, setting a 10-year sales tax increase of 1%. The tax was extended for another 10 years in 2016.
The tax generates about $8.5 million each year, according to city officials.
The money generated from the tax goes to police and fire services, street maintenance, parks and recreation and other services.
