GROVETOWN, Ga. (WJBF) - The special election for the Columbia County commission District 2 seat has been decided – Republican Jim Steed won the race.

As Steed celebrated his win tonight, one of the main topics of interest in the community was the proposed data center project.

"I want facts. I don't want speculations. I don't want to make a decision based on speculation," Steed said. "As a citizen, I just got what I heard. And I'm hoping that when I get in there I can delve into the facts and find out if it's going to help Columbia County, I'm going to vote for it. If it's going to hurt Columbia County, I'm going to vote against it. It's all about what it's going to do for Columbia County and the citizens in that area."

Steed said he also wants to focus on helping people with fixed incom
