CHESAPEAKE, Va. —
HAMEL WINS
Incumbent Chesapeake Commonwealth's Attorney Matt Hamel has held on to his seat, defeating challenger David Mick, according to unofficial election results.
The unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections show Hamel ahead of Mick by a margin of 57% to 43%.
Hamel was elected to the office in 2022. This time around, he ran as a Democrat after saying he no longer aligns with the party leadership of the Republicans. He served on Chesapeake's City Council from 2018 until he was elected commonwealth's attorney in 2021.
Hamel is also a former Navy prosecutor, and previously told 13News Now he campaigned on successes like the Elder Abuse Task Force and creating what he claimed to be the second-largest drug court and behavioral health docket in the
