JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville held a community conversation Tuesday, asking residents to share their opinions as it considers bringing a data center to the former General Motors/Janesville Automotive Transport Company (GM/JATCO) sites.
There are two proposals from two different companies.
The GM/JATCO sites, located at 1000 General Motors Drive and 544 Kellogg Avenue, were originally home to the Janesville Assembly Plant, until GM closed it in 2008. The city took ownership of the properties after years of inaction on redevelopment.
Janesville city manager Kevin Lahner addressed several facts and myths about data centers.
He says while data centers do use a lot of power, in Wisconsin, data centers do not escalate power costs for residents.
