Staten Island has spoken.

Unfortunately, the rest of the city didn’t listen. They never do.

When it came to the race for New York City’s next mayor, poll-after-poll predicted they wouldn’t.

An Advance/SILive.com editorial called on Staten Islanders to come out in force for Andrew Cuomo, and they did -- in huge numbers.

Perhaps many who wanted to see Curtis Sliwa in City Hall come January 1 had to hold their noses, but the overwhelming majority in our town voted for Andrew Cuomo.

So many that Curtis Sliwa held only a slim lead over Zohran Mamdani on Staten Island – a shocking statistic given that Curtis is the darling of Staten Island Republicans. And a shocking change from the last election, when Curtis crushed Eric Adams on Staten Island with about 60,000 votes to Adams
