At 2:44 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a high wind watch valid from 9 p.m. until Thursday 8 a.m. for Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn and Queens as well as Westchester, Suffolk and Nassau counties.

The weather service says, "West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible."

"Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles," states the weather service. "Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds."
