CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Voters on Tuesday approved a sales tax referendum in Mecklenburg County that will increase the sales tax by one cent.
In the municipal election held Tuesday, Nov. 4 , the majority of voters in Mecklenburg County voted in favor of a proposed one-cent sales tax increase meant to benefit transportation initiatives and infrastructure in the county.
The final vote tallies, which came in just before midnight Tuesday, showed more than 52% of voters supported the referendum, and over 47% of voters opposed the referendum.
Election results are not official until they are certified by a board of elections. County boards of elections in North Carolina were scheduled to meet to certify Nov. 4, 2025, election results on Nov. 14.
