Jeremiah Thompson won election to the Onondaga County Legislature’s 4th district on Tuesday with 56.19% of the vote.
Thompson, a Democrat, defeated the incumbent Colleen A. Gunnip, a Republican, who has already served three terms on the legislature.
“It comes down to one thing at the end” Thompson said after learning of his victory. “That’s the people that I met at the doors, the people that I listen to, the people who told me that they want a government that actually listens to them.”
Thompson received 3,399 votes to Gunnip’s 2,646, which represented 43.74% of the vote.
“We’re going to celebrate tonight,” Thompson said. “Then we’re going to go to work for the people who put us here.”
Thompson, 47, is a Syracuse University writing instructor and chair of the Liverpool Zoning Board o
