HELENA — Downtown business Sage & Oats Trading Post is temporarily closed after an employee’s violent voicemail against Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Sheehy drew “physical threats” from social media.

“As owners, we do not condone threatening language of any type to anyone, including (Haley McKnight’s) comments to Senator Sheehy,” owners Major and Michelle Robinson said on Facebook.

McKnight, the manager of Sage & Oats, left a July 1 voicemail wishing Sheehy “die like a dog in the street” and develop pancreatic cancer, among other comments.

The voicemail was revealed in a National Review article the day before Helena’s municipal election. McKnight is running for a nonpartisan Helena City Commission seat and faces three competitors.
