LONGVIEW, Texas — Thousands of voters turned out in Gregg County on Tuesday to cast their ballots on a series of local and state constitutional amendments.

While crowds formed at some locations, overall turnout remains lower than in presidential election years.

“Anytime there's a constitutional amendment election and people aren’t on the ballot, our voters just typically don't turn out to vote as much,” Gregg County Election Administrator Jennifer Griggs said.

Just last year, during the 2024 presidential election, turnout was as high as 65% — but early voting for the current election reached only about 4%.

As of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, about 4,850 residents voted — that’s roughly 11% of registered voters. In comparison, the last odd-year constitutional amendment election in 2023 saw a 15%
