Motorists across Malawi are stranded as long fuel queues worsen nationwide, with some spending nights at filling stations hoping for a few litres.
The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has attributed the crisis to post-election unrest in Tanzania, Malawi’s main fuel supply route, saying the disruption has slowed delivery trucks heading to Malawi.
In Blantyre, it’s a long night for residents trying to get home. Heavy traffic has clogged major routes, especially along the Blantyre–Chikwawa (M1) Road, where vehicles have come to a complete standstill near Nancholi Filling Station.
Some motorists have been seen pushing their vehicles, while others sit patiently in long lines with empty tanks.
