CARMEL – Some 20,000 of Putnam County’s 75,000 eligible voters went to the polls on Election Day and elected Brian Hess as the county’s chief lawman.

Despite the fact that voter registration in recent years has swung toward the Democratic Party – latest enrollment indicates 25,572 Republicans to 23,282 Democrats, down to a 2,290 vote difference – Putnam remains a GOP stronghold as voters not only elected the Republican endorsed Hess as sheriff but selected three Republicans to the county legislature.

Incumbent Erin Crowley was reelected defeating Lenny Harrington for the Dist. 9 seat while Jake D’Angelo was victorious over Brett Yarris in Dist. 5 and in the closest race newcomer Tom Regan bested Thomas Sprague by 43 votes in Dist. 6.
