MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis City Council officially confirms Colin Burress as the new fire chief of the Memphis Fire Department, and he is already taking action.
"I look forward to working with each of you to provide our citizens with vigilance, with a fire department that serves with heart and stands ready for what lies ahead. Thank you," Chief Burress said.
Around 8 a.m., the fire department is expected to be joined by its new fire chief as they kick off a food drive.
Memphis City Council members officially confirmed Chief Burress on Tuesday. He was joined by Mayor Paul Young, who nominated him last week following the retirement of Chief Gina Sweat.
City council members spoke highly of Chief Burress' character.
