COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Residents may hear sirens Wednesday, but don’t be alarmed.

Wednesday is Georgia’s Severe Weather Preparedness Day with some taking part in a tornado drill at 9:30 a.m.

During this time, Columbus will test its outdoor warning sirens. Schools and businesses are encouraged to practice tornado drills.

Remember, sirens are only intended for people who are outside during approaching weather and they aren’t the most reliable way to get alerts.

Each person should have multiple ways to receive alerts, including a NOAA Weather Radio and the WTVM Weather app.
