LOWELL, Mass. —
A man is facing charges in connection with a fatal, drunken, wrong-way crash on the Lowell Connector early Wednesday.
Derek Witzenman, 29, of Woburn, was driving outbound in the inbound lane when his vehicle crashed into another vehicle at 1:15 a.m. near Exit 5A, Massachusetts State Police said.
The driver of the second vehicle and a passenger were taken to Lowell General Hospital and later transported by medical helicopter to a Boston-area hospital, where the driver later died.
The victims' names have not been released.
Witzenman was arrested on several charges, including operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
He is expected to be arraigned later Wednesday in Lowell District Court.
