SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - 61% of voters approved the Chatham County SPLOST, or Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, measure.

The vote keeps in place the existing one-percent sales tax Chatham County has had since 1985.

This is expected to raise $700 million dollars for capital projects county-wide.

The biggest impact residents can expect to see from SPLOST 8 is money for drainage improvements to neighborhoods along the Springfield and Casey Canals .

Those projects are expected to cost around $20 million apiece.
